It was 150 years ago, on May 20, 1873, that Levi Strauss & Co. obtained a patent for "a method of using metal rivets to reinforce pockets on clothing."
A year later, on August 25, 1874, Greenebaum Brothers, also based in San Francisco, obtained a patent for reinforcing stress points with leather.
Until the rivet patent expired in the 1890s, Greenebaum Brothers' pants were supplied as durable workwear from the West to the Midwest, where mineral resource mining was booming.
Greenebaum Brothers will celebrate their 150th anniversary in 2024. They will create their original design, "Leatherbound Overalls," created in the 19th century, by recreating their original "Two-by-One Denim," which stands out from the rest.
It is a short-type "blouse" that is no exaggeration to say is the origin of the "G-Jean jacket."
The straight-sewn shoulder line means that the sleeve seam is "zero", so when worn, the shoulders naturally drop and the fabric gathers like an accordion under the armpits.
This is also a characteristic of the fading of the period.
The symmetrical pockets are also rare for workwear of this era.
The front placket with buttonholes has vertical shirt holes on the body and horizontal holes only on the obi.
